“No horse gets anywhere until he is harnessed. No steam or gas ever drives anything until it is confined. No Niagara is ever turned into light & power until it is tunneled. No life ever grows great until it is focused, dedicated, disciplined.” – Harry Emerson Fosdick
Discipline, I have found, is a fundamental component to achieve success in anything. It is knowing what you want most versus what you want now & channeling all your energy to ensure you reach that goal. Yes, you will need to have a positive attitude. Yes, you will need to have expectation. But discipline is a totally different animal. It’s something that doesn’t happen overnight. It takes patience & fine-tuning to have it. I know for me it can be challenging to maintain discipline in my activities day in & day out when I may not see the results I want to see.
I know first-hand that the moments in my life where I have seen the most productivity, the most positivity, the most fulfillment & the most self-confidence were after seasons of intense discipline. Life is going to keep moving so why fight what we know we should do? Discipline will unlock your very best potential & allow you to make a positive impact in ways you cannot possibly imagine. I’m excited to keep working on improving in this area too.
Some tips on how develop more discipline in your life:
- teach yourself to value your time & make good use of it
- know the priorities of your personal life & professional life
- “Temet Nosce” is Latin for “Know Thyself.” Study yourself & focus on improving yours strengths
- Be protective of your time & be sure to invest it with people who produce results, people who bring out the best in you
- Make decisions quickly, regardless of having all the facts
- Flat out take action, don’t worry about being perfect
- Focus on today, don’t live in the past OR the future. All you have is today.
Cooking healthy & fast is not always an easy task. Stumbled on a good one with under 300 calories per serving.
Curry paste & coconut milk jazz up a simple chicken & vegetable stir-fry. Once ingredients are prepped, cooking goes quick, so have everything ready before you heat the pan.
- 2 tablespoons fresh lime juice
- 1/4 cup rice vinegar
- 2 teaspoons red curry paste
- 2 tablespoons brown sugar
- 1/8 teaspoon crushed red pepper
- 1 pound skinless, boneless chicken breast, cut into bite-sized pieces
- 1 1/2 tablespoons vegetable oil, divided
- 1 cup chopped carrot
- 1 (8-ounce) package presliced mushrooms
- 1 cup chopped onion
- 1/2 cup light coconut milk
- 1 tablespoon fish sauce
- 1 cup fresh bean sprouts
- 1/4 cup chopped fresh cilantro
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
Combine lime juice, rice vinegar, red curry paste, brown sugar & crushed red pepper in a large zip-loc bag. Add chicken; seal & marinate in frig for 15 minutes, turning once.
Remove chicken from bag, reserving marinade. Heat 1 tablespoon oil in a large nonstick skillet or wok over medium-high heat. Add chicken; stir-fry 4 minutes. Remove chicken from pan; keep warm. Add remaining 1 1/2 teaspoons oil to pan. Add onion & carrot; stir-fry 2 minutes. Add mushrooms; stir-fry 3 minutes. Add reserved marinade, scraping pan to loosen browned bits. I felt inspired to be real…
I so want to see more people WINNING in life & that doesn’t just mean money. It means great relationships, fulfillment at work, reaching their potential, having peace & joy in life, making a difference in the lives of others, security, etc…
Do you have a dream? Anything? To pay off your mortgage? To retire early or just comfortably? To get in better shape & lose weight? To put your kids through college with ZERO debt? To own your own business & call your own shots? It’s easy to want those dreams before we are actually working in the morning, when we are not engaged in the day yet.
I hear so many people say “dreams can be so unrealistic,’ but isn’t that any oxymoron? I mean, aren’t dreams supposed to be unrealistic, that’s why so few actually accomplish because it takes more than an average person to accomplish them. I’ve heard it say that “average” is the best of the worst & the worst of the best. DON’T be average & go get what it is YOU want for your life!!!
When you are focused on what you want for your life, when you really know WHY you want it & you really NEED it, it fuels & drives you to become better everyday, to push just a bit more.
ALL success is outside your comfort zone…in order to reach that goal, you cannot just dream about it, you have to go “all-in” to your potential. You must have the courage to take action, whether you fail or succeed in the moment. Failure is part of life but the goal is to fail FORWARD. If a baby did what many people do, they would never learn to walk, they’d crawl through their lives. Unfortunately, there are many people doing just that, accepting their circumstances as their lot in life. NO WAY! Go get yours! Start crawling if you have to but over time, you will start walking & then running with momentum toward that goal.
My passion is to help people & see people unlock their potential, that they come to realize they do have seeds of greatness inside of them & that they have something of value to offer this world. You can have whatever you want if you believe in yourself, work consistently, work on yourself through personal development & take action!
“All of our dreams can come true, if we have the courage to pursue them.” – Walt Disney
Be a great YOU, go out & take action & WIN your day!!!
Breakfast really is the most important meal of the day. Not only does it give you energy to start the new day, breakfast is linked to many health benefits including weight control & improved performance. Studies show a healthy breakfast provides more nutrients, vitamins & minerals, improved concentration & performance, increased strength & endurance when engaging in physical activity & lower cholesterol levels.
Here’s a healthy recipe that should go over well with everyone in the house, not to mention it gets the kiddos in a healthy-eating habit…
Oatmeal Protein Pancakes:
– ½ cup oatmeal (steel-cut if you have it)
– 1 cup whipped egg whites
– 1 scoop vanilla protein powder (your preference, I will use vanilla Shakeology)
– ¼ teaspoon baking powder
– 2 teaspoons pumpkin puree
– 1 teaspoon cinnamon
For the cream topping: greek yogurt (vanilla recommended), almond extract, a splash of almond milk & a drizzle of honey. Whip up & serve over pancakes. Add strawberries, raspberries as a great blast of flavor.
There are only 2 things in life we have control over: our attitude & our actions. I see so many people not succeeding in life because they are reactive in nature. They blame outside influences on their inability to succeed or reach certain goals in their lives. Yes, stuff is going to happen, it’s called life. BUT, it is how we think AND how we respond to it that will determine the trajectory of our life.
Bottom line, we must choose to have a positive attitude, to not be a victim & commit to taking control over our lives. We must take personal responsibility & ownership &, gradually, we will being to see the success we desire in reaching the goals important to us.
Great excerpt out of a great book I’ve read…
