Your intestines are home to 500 million bacteria, some are good & some are bad. There's recent research that suggests the more good bacteria in your gut, the stronger your immune system be. A great way to get more good bacteria in your system is with probiotics.
Probiotics are organisms such as bacteria or yeast believed to improve health. They are often referred to as the “good bacteria" as they help the body absorb important vitamins & minerals, including calcium, iron, chromium & vitamins A, D, E, and K.
Probiotics are believed to improve intestinal function & maintain the integrity of the lining of the intestines.
There are many ways to get probiotics in your diet (ginger beer, sauerkraut, kefir, kimchi, kombucha, miso) but not always easy to source. Perhaps the easiest to stick with is yogurt. Now, when buying yogurt, whether it be made with cow's milk, soy milk or almond milk, be sure to look for the words "live & active cultures" on the container to ensure that it packs a probiotic punch. Personally, I am big on greek yogurt as it has more protein & less fat. You can add yogurt to smoothies, top it with your favorite fruit, add granola to it (like I do) or enjoy it straight up.
